The result was a not particularly imaginative, but entertaining and thoroughly amusing comedy. The Netflix in-house production Yes Day now follows a similar premise. Instead of a single, it is the parents Allison and Carlos who say the magic word ‘yes’ to their three children for a day.
Right at the beginning it is revealed that Allison and Carlos were real yes-sayers and thus successful and happy before the birth of their three little ones. Now with the children by the cheek, there is no room for the word ‘yes’. This in turn leads to the fact that their two daughters and their son are really annoyed by their parents – especially by mother Allison, who is even compared to Stalin in a video school project. From a family point of view, father Carlos has it better because within his clan he’s considered a cool dad, a fact that annoys Allison. But salvation is approaching, in the form of a teacher who advises the stressed couple to try the eponymous Yes Day.
