The characters in The Vesper Chronicles are clearly influenced by fairy tales, and they allegorically represent the obstacles that the young girl must overcome in order to grow and fulfill her destiny.
Thus, we have a loving father (Richard Brake, in an effective misappropriation) who is paralyzed and limited to moving through the use of a mentally controlled robot that bears the load. Rosie meets Camélia (Rosie McEwen), a new friend with secrets, or even her uncle (Eddie Marsan) as the Big Bad Wolf or ogre.
While Vesper remains the central character, the entire cast is important because each good or bad character adds a stone to the psychological edifice that the young girl builds throughout the film and finds its visual consecration at the end, during its ascent of the scrap dealers’ tower.
