The new animation studio Locksmith Animation, whose name is made up of the surnames of the two founders Sarah Smith and Julie Lockhart, has existed for just seven years . With RON LÄUFT SCHIEF, the studio is now releasing its first own film. This might also have happened earlier if it had not been for some unexpected events beforehand.
The newcomer studio signed a contract with Paramount Pictures, but it was canceled just a year after the signing by the new Paramount boss Jim Gianopulos. As a result, a deal was signed with 20th Century Fox in 2017 with the goal of Locksmith releasing a film every 12-18 months. As is well known by now, 20th Century Fox was replaced byDisney bought up, which in turn meant that Locksmith now signed a contract with Warner Bros. and will produce under the label in the future. RON GOES WRONG will be the only Locksmith film released under 20th Century Fox.
For Jean-Philippe Vine it is the first feature film of his directing career. Previously, he was involved in the stories of the Pixar films CARS 3: EVOLUTION, EVERYTHING STANDS HEAD and ARLO & SPOT. The local film is also one of the few pandemic films published to date, which was largely made during the lockdown. Much of the work had to be done from the home computer, which of course brought some challenges, but also a lot of new experiences.
Vine says: “Sometimes it felt like we were making the largest and most expensive ‘private home movie’ in the world.” It was probably the most relaxed for the voice actors to be here.
